Want to Improve Your Stamina? Drink Beetroot Juice!

Stunning news?  You are not alone.  Scientists who discovered that drinking beetroot juice improves ones stamina were as stunned as you are.

A study from the United Kingdom discovered that the nitrate-content in beetroot juice can boost a person’s stamina by making muscles more fuel-efficient.

Men aged 19 to 38 were asked to drink 500ml of beetroot juice everyday for a week.  After that, they were asked to cycle on exercise bikes.  The study revealed that because the nitrate oxide in their blood was doubled because of the beet juice, it also lessened the rate at which muscles used their main source of energy.

Blood flow, hormone levels and cell-signalling became better making the muscles work more efficiently and lowering their oxygen uptake.

It sounds a bit complicated but the bottom line is drinking beet juice can enable a person to exercise 16 percent longer before getting tired.

The men who participated in the study were able to exercise 92 second longer after they have taken beetroot juice.  This implies that they spent less energy for the same amount of work.

This is beneficial to elderly people, those with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, and especially to athletes where a difference of a millisecond could mean winning.

“We were amazed by the effects of beetroot juice on oxygen uptake because these effects cannot be achieved by any other known means, including training,” says Andy Jones, a researcher.

Nitrates are especially concentrated in juices but are also found in green leafy vegetables like lettuce and spinach.

For just around £2 a pint, the key to more energy should already be in your hands.
